Feline Socialization Program

Kitten Socialization

Coronado CARES’ Feline Socialization Program for cats and kittens takes place at Coronado Veterinary Hospital. The veterinary team generously provides a safe haven for cats and kittens in need of loving homes.

While awaiting adoption, volunteers spend time interacting with the cats and kittens. Daily human contact is essential to help them become social, comfortable, and ready to transition into home environments. Coronado CARES is deeply grateful to Coronado Veterinary Hospital for providing a place where these cats and kittens can stay until they are adopted.

Volunteers are needed to gently pet, play with, and socialize the cats and kittens. All volunteers will receive training before they begin. Volunteers must also be current on their tetanus vaccination.

If you would like to volunteer with the Feline Socialization Program, please contact us.

Coronado CARES is dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats. Our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Program is the most effective and compassionate way to help feral cats while preventing future homelessness.

Feral cats are not accustomed to human interaction. Some are born outdoors, while others were once pets that became lost or abandoned. Through TNR, these cats are humanely trapped, taken to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and health-checked, then returned to the location where they were found.

Once returned, a homeowner or other volunteer is required to provide daily food and water, monitor the cats’ health, and watch for any new cats who may need help. Found cats should be checked for a microchip. If a cat is found to be lost or owned, every effort should be made to reunite them with their family. Coronado CARES can provide education and information for anyone who finds a feral or lost cat and needs help with what to do.

Cats can begin reproducing as young as four months old, leading to thousands of homeless cats and kittens in just a few years. TNR stops this cycle, stabilizes feral cat populations, improves the health of the cats, returns lost cats to their owners and reduces the number of kittens born without homes.

If you have concerns about stray or feral cats in your neighborhood, please contact us.

Coronado CARES is proud to offer free microchip clinics to help keep pets safe and give families peace of mind. Microchipping is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reunite lost pets with their owners and ensure they make it home where they belong.

Our free microchip clinics are offered periodically throughout the year for the communities we serve.

Stay tuned for upcoming clinic dates, or contact us for information about future events and opportunities.

Spay/Neuter Program

Coronado CARES supports spay and neuter efforts as a vital way to protect animal health and reduce pet overpopulation. These services help prevent unwanted litters, improve the well-being of animals, and play a critical role in reducing the number of homeless pets in our communities.

Through our spay and neuter initiatives, we aim to make compassionate, responsible pet care more accessible while working toward a future with fewer animals in need.
